Join us for City Arts & Lectures annual series "On Arts" which will directly benefit the 826 Valencia Scholarship Program. Terry McMillan fell in love with books as a teenager while working at the local library. She studied journalism at UC Berkeley and screenwriting at Columbia before making her fiction debut with Mama in 1994. McMillan is also the author of the best-selling novels Getting to Happy, Disappearing Acts, Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, A Day Late and a Dollar Short, and The Interruption of Everything. Her newest book,Who Asked You?, is set in a racially diverse Los Angeles neighborhood. It centers around a trademark McMillan heroine: a woman left to look after her young grandsons, adult children and an ailing husband, all while holding down a job delivering room service at a hotel.
