Join our round table discussion on "grit"

(General Event)

May 2,2014, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ 826 Valencia St.
Join our Round Table Discussion on "Grit" Join 826 Valencia staff, interns, and volunteers in an open discussion on "grit" and how it applies to both academic achievement and life-long success. Event will be held Friday, April 11 at 6 PM in the 826 Writing Lab. What is "Grit?"  University of Pennsylvania's Angela Duckworth, who was awarded the MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant, defines grit as, "passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out... living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint." Check out Duckworth's interview for more in depth information on the new buzzword in education. How do you define "grit?" Is grit something you can teach to others, or does it have to be learned on its own? How have you seen it manifest in your own life, as well as in the lives of others?   Round table discussions are a time for the 826 community to get together and talk about what's happening in the world of education and literary endeavors. Light refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
