TNDC African American Festival

(General Event)

Feb 27,2015, 4:00 PM - 5:15 PM @ San Francisco, CA
826 Valencia is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) in support of student writing honoring African American History Month. The African American Festival will take place on Friday, February 27th, from 4:00–5:15 pm in the Koret Auditorium, at the San Francisco Public Library, 100 Larkin Street, in San Francisco.

For the project, a group of high school students are designing the format and audience experience of the African American Festival, which seeks to to honor the historical and contemporary figures who are working toward a more just and equal society. Using the theme of #blacklivesmatter, the festival will include skits, poems, dance performances, a moment of silence, and a video of oral histories, all exploring the possibilities of a future without violence. Stay tuned for a new collection to be published and produced by 826 Valencia, showcasing the students’ scripts, poems, and essays examining how they see themselves, and how others may perceive them.

We invite everyone in the 826 Valencia community to join us to honor African American History Month, and to celebrate our newest partnership in the Tenderloin!
