How to Talk About Race, Gender, and Identity in the Classroom

At the 826 Valencia Tenderloin Center, 180 Golden Gate Ave. Friday, April 7, 2017 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Unsure how to talk about race, class, and gender with students? Want to help students process difficult current events? Please join us for a workshop that covers these topics and more! This workshop will teach you how to empower students to engage with questions of identity in their writing. You will learn culturally responsive and compassionate questioning techniques, as well as strategies to help students think critically about incorporating their own identities into their writing. This workshop is particularly useful for tutors who are working with students on memoirs, personal narratives, or argumentative/persuasive writing about social and community issues. Sign up on our volunteer calendar and read out to Director of Education Christina Perry at christina@826valencia.org with questions.
