Writing for Cinema: From Your Notebook to the Big Screen
Taught by Megan Turner Open to 12 students, ages 11–13 A three-week workshop April 8–22 Saturdays, 12-2 p.m. We all love the movies: the dark theater, the smell of buttery popcorn, the bright sounds and colors of a riveting tale unfolding on the silver screen. But before a blockbuster makes it to you, it starts as words on a page. Join this workshop to learn what it takes to pen your own cinematic adventure! We will look at screenplays from popular films such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and use these scripts to see what we can learn about the screenwriting process. In drafting screenplays, we will pay particular attention to dialogue, character, and scene, building a plot that also focuses on the visual world. As a final project, you will work in teams to develop your own screenplay!
