Reply All: Writing in Collaboration (Ages 11–13) [CLASS FULL—WAITLIST ONLY]

May 5,2018, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM @ 826 Valencia Writing Lab
Taught by Lila Cutter & Ismail Muhammad
Open to 12 students, ages 11–13
A three-week workshop
May 5–19
Saturdays, 12–2 p.m.

What do you see when you imagine a writer at work? Someone alone at a coffee shop or a park, pencil in hand? Writing is often thought of as a solo activity, but in this workshop we’ll experiment with collaboration by writing poetry and stories based on each other’s work. We may find that, sometimes, the best inspiration for new writing is each other.

Over the course of three sessions we’ll write poetry, nonfiction, and fiction pieces in order to think about why these genres exist in writing and how we relate to them. Writing across genres will help us branch outside of our comfort zones so that, through writing in community, we can discover the adaptability and uniqueness of each of our voices.
