We could not continue to grow and thrive without the generous support of our donors. How will your donation impact 826 Valencia? Here are some concrete examples:

$50 Buys two new chairs for our writing lab. With an average of eighty-five students visiting our center every day, our chairs get a lot of use and must be replaced regularly.

$100 Helps to pay for the bare-bones essentials for one week at the writing center — paper, pencils, pencil sharpeners.

$200 Buys ten packs of professional-quality binding strips for our book binding machine. 826 believes in honoring our student writers’ hard work by producing high-quality publications.

$500 Pays for a two-hour workshop session on anything from writing comic books to college-entrance essays. Class sizes are small and each student receives individual attention on their work.

$1,000 Allows a class of elementary school students to experience our signature Storytelling & Bookmaking field trip. Here students are given a unique learning experience that is both rigorous and fun, collectively writing a story and experiencing the elements of storytelling first hand.

Whether it’s $20 or $20,000, every last cent will be hugely appreciated and put to good use. 826 Valencia’s tax ID # is 04-369-4151.

Featured Donor Profile: Liz Kelly

“I own a small communications consulting company called Brilliant Ink. We specialize in helping companies in the healthcare, technology, and financial services industries communicate with their employees to inspire them to do their best work. A large part of what we do is helping our clients think about how to communicate creatively with their employees, which usually translates to compelling writing (hence the name Brilliant Ink).

When I started the company, it was very important to me that we give back to our community. We’re San Francisco based and were specifically looking for partners we could give to who would be directly involved in improving the place where we all work and/or live. In researching 826 Valencia, they seemed like the perfect partner for us. I loved the emphasis on writing as a means not only for creative expression, but also as a viable career path.

I also liked that 826 has a down-home, neighborhood kind of feel. We’re a small business and don’t have tons of money to give away – yet! So I wanted our contributions to be somewhat meaningful to the organization we provided them to, as opposed to a drop in the bucket for a nonprofit that is focused on huge corporate donors. I have loved getting to know all the 826 staff, and my team really hopes to be more hands on with our involvement in the future. This is a key goal for us in 2012.”
