At 826 Valencia we know that writing is empowerment; it’s a tool for self-expression, for building community, and for dreaming. We believe that all kids should have access to magical spaces that inspire creativity and cultivate wonder as part of the learning process. In early 2016 we’ll be opening the doors of our second San Francisco writing and tutoring center, bringing our free services and their proven impact to 2,000 more under-resourced youth each year.
Our programs have the power to transform a student’s relationship to writing, leading to big gains in their skills, confidence, and achievement. Together, we can help our young people write their stories and imagine their futures. Let’s transform the unknown into the wondrous, and — yes, really — an abandoned liquor store into a writing center with a treehouse in it.
