As a non-profit, we are faced with the need to raise funds to help secure the future of our programs. Every little bit of support we receive makes a difference.
826 Valencia opened its doors to the public in April, 2002. Since then, we have enlisted help from hundreds of qualified volunteer tutors eager to teach students in the area. We also have seen the interest in our programs—from teachers and students in the area—steadily increase. We are thrilled to see the nod of approval from the community as we strive to provide our free services to Bay Area teachers, students, and families.
We've been blessed by offers of help, and were in the process of making sure we properly respect and utilize all volunteer offers. But lets be frank, we need you. Whether you can come by once a week, once a month, or once a year, consider becoming an 826 volunteer!
We're always seeking teaching talent to lead workshops here in our writing lab. Check out our upcoming workshops if you need a bit of inspiration! If you have an idea for a workshop, and you've already signed up as a volunteer, then download information on how to go about this here. You can then draft your own proposal using this guide.
We currently have a particular need for equipment — new or refurbished Macs and/or Power Macs that are OS X compatible, flat screen monitors and software — for our writing lab. We could also use external hard drives, firewire cables, USB cables, digital video cameras, and digital photo equipment for our digital story telling workshops.
We've had tons of help from lots of very generous individuals and organizations, and we'd really like to thank them all.
