STATUS: Exempt
HOURS: 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., with weekends and evenings as required
START DATE: August 1, 2018
SALARY: $50,000-$65,000 depending on experience

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Programs Manager will be responsible for developing and executing new programs at our new center and affordable housing building in the Mission Bay. In the fall, the Programs Manager will pilot writing programming for under-resourced youth through partner organizations and then launch our After-School Program in the spring. The Programs Manager will design and implement services to schools in the Bay View, Potrero Hill, and Dogpatch neighborhoods. This position requires a deep knowledge of schools and communities and the ability to adjust approaches to best meet the needs of students and families.

REPORTING STRUCTURES:

The Programs Manager will report to the Executive Director and supervise a small team, including a Programs Coordinator, Programs Associates, interns, and volunteers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Design and Implementation

  • Design innovative, project-based, and standards-based programs that provide students with a unique opportunity to demonstrate learning, develop skills, and express ideas creatively.
  • Oversee assigned daily program operations and coordinate program activities for programs.
  • Develop outreach campaigns to ensure neighborhood families, target schools, and focal student populations are aware of services and recruited to engage in programs.
  • Correspond effectively and expediently with teachers and partner organizations to schedule programming and share vital information that informs effective programming.
  • Develop effective, responsive, project-based, and standards-based curriculum.
  • Determine program priorities and track progress towards goals/objectives; evaluate program effectiveness to develop improved methods for program delivery and report out impact.
  • Manage related student publications and coordinate release parties for students and families.
  • Staff programs with volunteers to provide optimal individualized attention for each program session.
  • Communicate with all parties in timely, responsive, and effective ways.

Supervision

  • Supervise and support the Programs Coordinator and the Programs Associates by providing on-going coaching, conducting formal evaluations, and instituting individual development plans.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of assigned volunteers; recruit, train, support, and celebrate volunteers in order to stabilize the programs; track volunteer participation in Salesforce.
  • Supervise interns effectively and support their professional development.

Other responsibilities:

  • Attend staff meetings, the annual 826 National conference, and other professional development workshops.
  • Meet all deadlines.
  • Provide updates to development staff and host funders as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff members to ensure robust programming.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Teaching Credential, English and or Elementary Education, with CLAD certification, or equivalent experience in the field.
  • At least five years of teaching experience with demonstrated ability to improve student achievement for low-income communities of color.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – a cheerful attitude and a sense of humor is a must. Inspires team to collaborate across departments to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Sets up strong collaboration structures and ensures roles and responsibilities are clear.
  • Ability to monitor, analyze, consult and report on programs and services to make strategic decisions and increase investment of stakeholders.
  • Excellent command of English language and grammar, both verbal and written. Shares information and decisions with staff and managers in a transparent and timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

In the fall, this position will involve travel from the centers in the Tenderloin and Mission to the Mission Bay neighborhood. In the spring, programs will run in the new center in the Mission Bay.
