Programs Assistant

826 Valencia is recruiting a BAYAC AmeriCorps member for the 2015–2016 school year! AmeriCorps members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

The In-Schools Programs Assistant will increase 826 Valencia’s capacity to serve under-resourced students in San Francisco by supporting our student programming in the classroom, working directly with teachers and students on their school campus. This one-year position is a unique opportunity to learn about curriculum development and teaching skills from within an innovative nonprofit organization.

Successful candidates will be extremely organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic about 826 Valencia’s mission, talented communicators, and very detail-oriented. A passion for education and a strong sense of social justice are essential. Candidates with Spanish-language skills will be given priority. The BAYAC members will work at our site on Valencia Street (826 Valencia, San Francisco, CA 94110), as well as on local Mission District school campuses where 826 Valencia hosts programming, and will be supervised by the In-Schools Program Director.

BAYAC AmeriCorps is a collaborative of over 30 community service organizations that serve youth & families in all 6 counties of the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, a federally-funded national and community service program, BAYAC Members commit to a full-time term of service approximately 40 hours per week.
