STEM to Story, a new book from 826 National

On February 26, 826 National released a new publication, STEM to Story: Enthralling and Effective Lesson Plans for Grades 5–8, which inspires learning through fun, engaging, and meaningful lesson plans that fuse hands-on discovery in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with creative writing.

Much like Don’t Forget to Write, each lesson was penned by 826 staff and volunteers, and we truly can’t wait for these madcap, STEM-infused writing workshops to make their way across the nation and into your hearts.

The result of a three-year partnership project with Time Warner Cable and their Connect a Million Minds initiative, STEM to Story has been vetted in and out of the classroom and has already been picked up by 1,000 YMCA centers. From this distribution alone, they’re estimating STEM to Story will reach 250,000 students in 44 states!

At 826 Valencia, we’ve been working to incorporate STEM into our creative writing model, most notably during our annual Exploring Words Summer Camp. The trend is spreading, as The Washington Post recently published this great article titled, “We don’t need more STEM majors. We need more STEM majors with liberal arts training,” further validating the importance of integrating writing in the STEM fields.
