Self-portraits have been used by artists to document how they see themselves, or how they want the world to see them, for centuries. In this workshop, we will look at examples of self-portraits through the ages in a variety of art forms, from sculptures to paintings to poetry. After discussing and brainstorming, students will construct two self-portrait poems: one for the present and one for the future. The goal of this workshop is to consider what self-portraits can be, and for students to define and envision who they will become.
