Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator helps amplify the voices of our students, conveys our imaginative brand, and elevates the work of 826 Valencia through our newsletters, website, social media, community partnerships, and other external communications. The ideal candidate loves to come up with clever ways to promote our work and grow our audience. We are looking for a strong writer and communicator who can create messages in the 826 voice that effectively engage various stakeholders (students, families, teachers, donors, and volunteers). The Communications Coordinator is a member of 826 Valencia’s Advancement Team, which is responsible for communications and fundraising.

  • Be the primary author and coordinator for our newsletters, social media, and website
Reporting Relationship
The Communications Coordinator reports to the Communications Manager. 
Key Responsibilities
Communications
  • Coordinate all aspects of social media planning and implementation (mainly Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook), including content development, scheduling, community management, and data analysis; collaborate with staff to source content and populate a content calendar
  • Implement systems and structures to regularly update the 826 Valencia website with current, clear, engaging, compelling information that is easy for stakeholders to navigate
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to create and publish content for 826 Valencia’s newsletters, social media platforms, print collateral, and other external and internal communications; write in the whimsical, wonderful, and weird 826 Valencia voice
  • Coordinate newsletter content in collaboration with staff in other departments (eg. Volunteer and Programs teams), edit all 826 Valencia newsletters and serve as the primary author of the Monthly Newsletter and Staff Newsletter; track success of newsletters 
  • Maintain data tracking systems to inform strategic decision-making; help set team goals and track metrics via Google Analytics, Mailchimp, and social media analytics platforms 
  • Advance the goal of amplifying our students’ voices by supporting book and podcast promotion and distribution, as well as special publishing opportunities through community partnerships
  • Support Communications Manager with time-sensitive media requests 
Other Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in 826 Valencia meetings, internal committees on diversity, equity and inclusion, performance appraisal systems, and other work events, such as anti-racism trainings, professional development workshops, and the annual 826 National conference
  • Support programs as needed in order to gain a broad and deep understanding of our work.; tutor with at least one program per week (approx. 2-4 hours)
  • Represent 826 Valencia at community fairs, special events, and partner venues as needed 
  • Meet all deadlines and maintain accurate timesheets
  • All other duties assigned by the Executive Director, Director of Advancement, and Supervisor
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 
  • Facility with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, and macOS
  • 1-2 years experience with nonprofit communications (preferred)
  • Website development skills and/or Wordpress fluency (preferred)
  • Experience with Canva (preferred)
  • Experience with social media scheduling platforms (preferred)
  • Photography and/or videography experience (preferred)
  • Able to complete a background check and Tuberculosis screening. Compensation & Benefits
  • $50,000-$55,000 annual salary
