Position Summary
Join our vibrant and high-performing Advancement Team as a Development & Annual Fund Coordinator, and play a vital role in supporting and growing our fundraising efforts. The Development & Annual Fund Coordinator will be responsible for managing the Annual Fund campaign, coordinating fundraising events, tracking donor engagement, and maintaining accurate donor records. The Coordinator will also have the opportunity to grow the Annual Fund program through targeted direct mail and email appeals, online giving, and stewardship efforts, using industry best practices to increase giving.We're seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and highly organized individual who loves developing systems to get donors excited about our work. The Development & Annual Fund Coordinator will report to the Director or Manager of Individual Philanthropy
Major Responsibilities
Development Coordination
  • Provide administrative support across the Advancement Team to support the fundraising goals of the organization and collaborate with finance staff on tracking gifts and financial reporting
  • Maintain, update, and report on donor data in Salesforce and individual donor organizational systems (e.g., Google Sheets and Asana) 
  • Coordinate and execute the gift stewardship process (gift acknowledgements and thank you cards), working with colleagues to ensure that gifts are acknowledged with speed, accuracy, and enthusiasm
  • Oversee the Salesforce platform, ensure the accuracy of donor records, and follow best practices to track and report results 
    • Train and guide 826 Valencia staff  to use this tool
    • Maintain the Development Coordinator’s Handbook
  • Coordinate execution and logistics of fundraising and donor cultivation events, including the annual Bookeaters’ Bash 
Annual Fund Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies and best practices for Annual Fund donor acquisition, renewal/upgrades, and stewardship
  • Collaborate with members of the Advancement Team and Design Team to conceptualize, design, and write Annual Fund campaign and materials 
  • Coordinate the execution of Annual Fund, including direct mail, email, and social media appeals, monthly donor and online giving strategies, and ongoing cultivation/stewardship
    • Implement an Annual Fund communications plan and timing in collaboration with communications staff
  • Track and report on results of appeals and special campaigns, adjusting strategies as needed
  • Build donor relationships with designated segments of annual and monthly donors, providing needed cultivation, stewardship, and opportunities for more substantial gifts over time
Other Responsibilities
  • Join the Advancement Team in promoting a culture of organization-wide philanthropy
  • Coordinate the in-kind donation process, and assist staff with onboarding and training related to the in-kind tracking system
  • Actively participate in 826 Valencia meetings, internal committees on diversity, equity and inclusion, performance appraisal systems, and other work events, such as anti-racism trainings, professional development workshops, and the annual 826 National conference
  • Collaborate with and support the Executive Director and Director of Individual Philanthropy, as needed. All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Supervisor
  • Support programs as needed in order to gain a broad and deep understanding of our work. All non-programs staff are expected to tutor with at least one program per week (approx. 2-4 hours)
  • Represent 826 Valencia at community fairs, special events, and partner venues, as needed 
  • Meet all deadlines and maintain accurate timesheets
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least two years of experience in nonprofit fundraising work (annual campaign fundraising preferred)
  • Experience with donor management software (Salesforce preferred)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and comfort working with spreadsheets and large batches of data
  • Facility with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and Zoom
  • Able to complete a background check and Tuberculosis screening. We will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records for employment, pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, but will not hire anyone with a record that includes a conviction of a serious or violent felony, sexual offense, or controlled substance offense
  • Able to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, including booster doses when eligible, or participate in an interactive process for accommodations. Able to follow COVID-19 health and safety guidelines while in the Writing Centers or at work events

Compensation & Benefits
  • $50,000 to $53,000 annual salary, with a $1,000 per year language premium for employees who meet the criteria
