Doughnuts and Dialogue: Art as Resistance

Description A reading featuring works across genres and celebrating identity When Saturday, October 5
Time 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Location 826 Valencia Mission Center, 826 Valencia St., San Francisco, CA 94110
After seeing the success of last April’s Doughnuts and Dialogue, we felt inspired to continue finding ways to engage our volunteer community in amplifying underrepresented voices. With that in mind, on October 5th from 10 a.m. to noon, we will be hosting the second edition of our Doughnuts and Dialogue series, “Art as Resistance.” Almost every day, we ask our students to engage with themselves and others in honest and creative ways — helping to spark civic engagement and have their unique voices heard. As volunteers and community members we want to be doing the same! As Audre Lorde says, “it is necessary to teach by living and speaking those truths which we believe and know beyond understanding.” Students, families, volunteers, and other community members are encouraged to submit content, especially those from underrepresented communities. We’ll feature coffee and treats from local vendors like Estas Manos and Marla Bakery, with a raffle to win some 826 Valencia publications! Please fill out this form if you’re interested in reading at our event, and RSVP through our event page or by emailing paolo.bicchieri@826valencia.org.
