Typographer Jessica Hische (the designer behind the Moonrise Kingdom lettering and Dave Eggers’s latest book cover) has just designed a notebook for 826 Valencia, which you can currently find on presale on our website or on display at our store in San Francisco. In beautiful typography, the notebook says 826 with a sword through it. We’re calling it the Captain’s Log, and we’re hoping this will be the first in a series of artist-designed Captain’s Log notebooks for 826.
826 will hold a release party/signing/Q and A with Jessica Hische for the book at 6 PM on April 13 at our Pirate Supply Store on Valencia Street (826 Valencia Street). Jessica will sign books and people can ask her design questions about the notebook specifically or about her typography.
More about the Captain’s Log:
The Captain’s Log is just the place to put all those star charts and navigational notes you’ve heretofore been stashing in crumpled bunches in pockets and drawers and other misguided places.
Keep your voyage plans—and your almost too accurate caricatures of the entire crew—safe in this fine leather-like notebook designed by the renowned letterer Jessica Hische. Buy this and other pirate supplies that benefit 826 Valencia at our brick and mortar location (826 Valencia Street, San Francisco) or online.
The first in a series of limited edition journals featuring original designs by guest artists. 100% of the proceeds will benefit 826 Valencia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging literacy and excitement for learning among San Francisco and Bay Area youth.
Please note: this item is currently a pre-order. Journals signed by artist Jessica Hische will ship out on Monday, April 14th. Advance (unsigned) copies are also currently available in store.
UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who came out to our Q&A with Jessica Hische! Notebooks will still be on sale at the Pirate Supply Store. All first editions sold after the Q&A are signed. Get yours while they last!
