Poetry to the People (ages 13-18)

Welcome! This workshop will support students in exploring their identity and voice as a poet. Students will examine poetic voices of writers of color, LGBTQIA+ writers, and female writers who use words to explore their own identity and it’s relationship with society. When we only look at our world through the eyes of a white, hetero, male authors, we develop misconceptions, racism, judgements, and disempowering views of underrepresented communities. Students will emerge from this workshop having written a poem about their own experience with identity and a fun zine filled with their fellow student’s poems!
