Shadi Rahimi speaks to After-school Tutoring students
Shadi Rahimi, a journalist, photographer, and videographer, joined us in the Writing Lab during after-school tutoring to talk to students and tutors about the importance of documenting experiences through writing, photographs, and videos. Students shared with Shadi that taking pictures is not only fun, but important to them, because when they grow up they want to reminisce and recall special events.
In 2011, Shadi moved to Egypt to report on the ongoing revolution. She shared the experiences in Egypt that led her to film a documentary called Boys of the Bullet about the lives of boys and young men on the front lines of the street clashes.
We watched snippets of the documentary as she narrated more about the young men featured in the film. Shadi led students in an activity where they chose a social issue at their table groups and created mindful and call-to-action posters. Passionate students shared their posters and explained the relevance of the issue they chose.
Many thanks to Shadi for sharing her experiences with our after-school students. We wish her the best as she completes Boys of the Bullet, and we admire her courage to document the conflict in Egypt.
